United Way Managing for Excellence Initiative
A Partnership for Planning

As a nonprofit, your ability to inspire the confidence of your supporters hinges on delivering consistently superior services while demonstrating operational efficiency.

The Heinz Endowments, Bayer Center for Nonprofit Management and the United Way of Allegheny County understand the challenges of your business. That is why we have partnered to create the Managing for Excellence Initiative, a unique framework that enables nonprofit organizations to efficiently plan for future success.

The Managing for Excellence Initiative is built on principles of the Drucker Planning Process. Named after its founder, Peter Drucker, the father of modern management, the process focuses on five questions to develop a three-year strategic plan.

  • What is our Mission?
  • Who is our Customer?
  • What does the customer Value?
  • What are our Results?
  • What is our Plan?
