Publications & Design Services 

University Publications Policy
All publications directed at an external audience (e.g., alumni, prospective students, the community, etc.) must be developed in conjunction with the Public Relations Office to ensure consistency of message and design.

The PR Office provides professional graphic design services to all university departments at a rate of $40 per hour. (Rush charges may apply for jobs submitted on short notice.) We encourage departments to utilize our design and editorial services for internal publications as well.

Requesting Publication Services
Departments should contact the Public Relations Office a minimum of 4-6 weeks prior to the date a publication is needed to provide sufficient time for design, proofing and printing. Clients are encouraged meet with the PR staff well in advance to discuss project details.

To start the process, clients must complete and submit a Request for Publications Services Form (available below), along with all needed copy and images. Copy should be submitted via disk or e-mail in Microsoft Word or text-only format. Images may be submitted as prints, slides or electronic files.

The PR staff will work with the client to create a publication that fits his or her needs and budget. The client will receive a proof of the project with an approval form, including design and printing cost estimates. The project will not be printed until a signed approval form is received from the client. The PR Office will determine the lowest-cost printing vendor for the project, whether it be an external printer or the IKON Document Center.

Billing
Graphic design fees will be charged back to the client's department at the end of the month in which the publication is printed. If the project is printed at the IKON Document Center on campus, the printing cost will be automatically charged to the department's internal printing budget. If the project is printed by an outside printer, the printer will send an invoice to PR, which will be forwarded to the department for processing out of its external printing budget.

Web Banners
Web banners or "buttons" can be designed to link to your department's event or information on the RMU website. Banners should be requested 2 weeks in advance of the needed date by contacting PR. Clients should make arrangements with Technology Services to post the specific event or program information on the website.
