RMU's Television & Video Production program, an offering in the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.), includes working behind the scenes and in front of the camera, both inside the studio and on location. Areas addressed include motion graphics, videography, field production, editing, storyboarding and writing for the media. Students can produce their own programs for RMU-TV and get involved in production as early as the first week of their first semester in the program.

All four Media Arts degree concentrations are available as a B.A. or B.F.A. program.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree is more specialized and intensive in the areas of concentration, with 24 credits of foundation studies and 24 major credits. The degree suits those who are clear that they wish to pursue a career in one of the four concentration areas, although they do not have to choose one until the sophomore year.
The Bachelor of Arts degree, in contrast, does not have a foundation studies area, but combines the same classes as those in the B.F.A. into 33 major credits. Additional courses are converted into open electives, allowing students to pursue a minor or broaden their studies into other areas of interest. The B.A. degree also allows transfer students to gain maximum advantage for credits completed at other institutions.
Academic Media Center The Academic Media Center provides a learning environment for students interested in television, video, audio, photography, multimedia, producing, and writing. The center houses exceptional facilities, including the second-largest television studio in Pittsburgh, a television control room, linear and nonlinear editing suites, darkrooms, computer labs and field production equipment. This ensures that students get first-hand knowledge on the same equipment found in broadcast TV stations and corporate communication departments.
RMU-TV The Academic Media Center produces programming for RMU-TV, a 24-hour cable television station broadcast throughout campus and to more than 200,000 homes in the surrounding community. Students participate in all phases of RMU-TV, both behind the scenes and in front of the camera. Student-produced programming includes news, sports, comedy, and talk shows.
Snee-Reinhardt House for the Media Arts Besides an apartment for visiting artists and scholars, this building includes a large, natural-light studio, conference and meeting rooms, ample display space for student work, and a theater-quality HD screening room that can also be used for classes.
In summer 2012, our school’s five departments will be housed in a new building on campus. The structure will include classrooms, computer labs, media arts studios, editing suites, a gallery, teleconferencing facilities, faculty and administrative offices, student meeting spaces, and a café.
Within walking distance to the new building are facilities that provide opportunities for students to develop expertise in a range of media. Students perform and produce plays and musicals in our theater; they produce our student newspaper, The Sentry, and our literary magazine, RUNE, in our newsroom; they produce documentaries, attend lectures and learn from visiting scholars in our Media Arts House; and they produce and host news, entertainment, and sports programs in our state-of-the-art Academic Media Center’s broadcast facility and our Internet radio station.
