Benefits and Payroll Administrator

The Human Resources Department announces the position of Benefits and Payroll Administrator reporting to the Director, Employee Benefits and Payroll.

Responsibilities Include: provides timely and accurate benefits counseling, answers to questions, benefits processing and assistance in resolving issues; serves as interface between employees and director/vendors to facilitate problem resolution; prepares enrollment materials and conducts professional benefits orientations; processes new enrollments, changes, terminations, etc. and enters required information into the appropriate ADP system to ensure accurate, up-to-date information to include plan design and premium changes; reviews benefit invoices and premium statements for accuracy; prepares necessary documentation or electronic files to effect payment; assists with the development and implementation of the annual open enrollment process and the annual benefits fair; assists in the development of benefit policies and in setting benefits strategy; assists in the completion of benefit related surveys (CUPA, etc.) and government reports (including FAS 106, HCFA, 5500s, SPDs, HIPAA, Medicare, and Discrimination Testing of Retirement Plan); administers COBRA and direct pay plans; informs individuals of their options, processes applications and communicates with carriers; administers retiree reimbursement process; assists in the maintenance of employee benefit information on the RMU website to ensure its accuracy and effectiveness; manages student payroll process from beginning to end.  maintains student worker population in HRAnytime and TimeSaver systems, prepares and distributes monthly student payroll checks, maintains cumulative monthly totals for the student payroll to coordinate with the Accounting Department and Financial Aid to track budgets and FWS funds; serves as backup for the Payroll and Benefits Manager; provides support to the Director and performs various benefit, payroll and HR generalist duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's Degree preferred, in human resources, finance, business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of combined benefits and benefits administration or related experience.

  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; ability to listen effectively and understand the information being conveyed, and respond courteously, tactfully and assertively; ability to make presentations and share information.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of FLSA regulations and ability to quickly become an internal expert on RMU benefits and payroll; ability to answer most benefit and payroll questions immediately, accurately, and with confidence; ability to find the answers to difficult questions expediently by accessing the appropriate resource(s).

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, pay attention to detail, perform under pressure, meet inflexible deadlines, and maintain confidentiality of employee and employer data.

  • Exceptional customer service and continuous process improvement mentality.

  • Computer software proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and experience with ADP or other HRIS, plus the ability to quickly learn other software programs.
