Assistant Director of Grounds

 

The Human Resources Department announces the position of Assistant Director of Grounds reporting to the Senior Director, Facilities Services.

 

Responsibilities include: direct and manage campus grounds by utilizing a blend of staff and contracted services; plan and schedule work to meet variations in weather conditions and deadlines; assign workforce to meet varying seasonal workloads; interview, hire, appraise, and discipline as required; optimize utilization of staff and outside contractors; develop and implement training programs for safety and work techniques; establish written work procedures; provide technical innovation for Grounds maintenance; develop and standardize road and walk maintenance techniques; develop contingency plans and organize emergency response for snow removal and floods; coordinate major landscape improvement projects from inception to implementation; develop schedules and environmental controls for grounds pest and weed control; select, order, direct installation of site plantings and materials to enhance campus grounds; develop working relationship with campus constituents in areas of roadway management, pest control, plantings and materials, turf grass management; provide support for excavation projects; develop and control cost estimates for construction of landscape projects; research new materials and techniques; establish, promulgate and enforce Grounds policy for the campus; familiar with and interpret environmental regulations and policies; pursue funding and material resources for Grounds operations; specify, select, and recommend purchases related to areas of oversight. Develop and manage budgets allocations; inventory control for all Grounds materials; hours vary based on seasonal demand; schedule may change weekly; positively represent the University to all guests and University Staff/Faculty; and performs related work as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Turf Grass Management required.

  • Minimum of 7 years management experience.

  • Experience in a college or university setting preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints.

  • Turf management experience.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to work flexible shifts, holidays and weekends.

  • Ability to problem solve event issues and maintains a high level of customer service and professionalism throughout the process.

  • Ability to receive verbal and written instructions and execute those instructions.

  • Professional presentation and work ethic.

  • Considered essential personnel and will be required to report to work during University closings.

  • A staff member is expected to abide by all of the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA and the NEC.  Staff members found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures.
