RMU Online Degree Programs Earn Top Rankings
Thursday, February 09, 2012
Pittsburgh -- SuperScholar, an online education and career information website, selected Robert Morris University for its first annual “Smart Choice” ranking of the top 25 schools for online nursing degrees.
SuperScholar developed the Smart Choice ranking to help prospective students decide where to earn an online nursing degree. In order to be selected for the ranking, institutions must be a regionally accredited college or university and offer an online nursing degree program accredited by either the CCNE or NLNAC. (RMU is CCNE-accredited.) The qualifying nursing schools were then evaluated "based on reputation and prestige, program quality, student satisfaction and cost."
Lynda J. Davidson, professor of nursing and dean of RMU's School of Nursing and Health Sciences, says that online education removes many barriers for practicing nurses who want to continue their education. "Our online RN-MSN program was designed following the Institute of Medicine, Future of Nursing Report, which recommended that 'nurses achieve higher levels of education through an improved education system that promotes seamless academic progress," she says. "Recognition by SuperScholar.org suggests that RMU is succeeding in providing a high quality program that will help our profession accomplish the goal."
RMU currently offers two online nursing degree programs:
- The R.N. to M.S.N. program is a convenient, cost-effective program that prepares practicing nurses for the role of a nurse educator in clinical, community, or academic settings. Designed for associate degree or diploma school graduates who would like to move ahead in the health care field, the program can be completed part-time in as little as three years. Upon completion, graduates will earn both a bachelor's and master's degree in nursing.
- RMU's Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.), with a concentration in nursing education, prepares nurses for a career as an educator in health care and academic settings. The curriculum combines strong interdisciplinary support courses in education and information science with focused nursing courses to develop expertise in teaching and learning methods that incorporate the use of technology.
In addition to the recognition for its online graduate-level nursing degrees, SuperScholar also ranked Robert Morris University #10 on its first annual Smart Choice ranking of the top colleges and universities for online bachelor’s degrees.
"Robert Morris University has a long-standing tradition of offering nontraditional students a variety of delivery options," says Darcy B. Tannehill, associate professor of education and RMU vice president of online & off-campus programs. "We are thrilled that our online programs are being recognized for their academic quality and high level of student support. At RMU, we focus on equipping our students with the skills and support they need to be successful in their career. It's just another way we're committed to changing our students' lives through education."
RMU's online offerings are also being recognized by other prestigious ranking organizations. U.S. News & World Report (www.usnews.com) recently named two of the university's programs in its Top Online Graduate Computer Information Technology Programs Ranking. The Master of Science (M.S.) in Competitive Intelligence Systems (Business Intelligence) degree program and the Master of Science (M.S.) in Internet Information Systems degree program, both started in fall of 2011, were ranked #11 in the Student Services and Technology category and #17 for Student Engagement and Accreditation.
