The sixth day of our tour will take us to the dramatic walled city of Orvieto in Umbria.
Perched on a hilltop affording dramatic views of the Italian countryside, Orvieto is a quaint city of cobblestoned streets leading to a magnificent central piazza. Beneath the city is a fascinating warren of tunnels and caves. A local guide will show us the sights, and we'll have lunch in the town, perhaps with a bit of the excellent local white wine made in the vineyards surrounding Orvieto.
Later, we'll proceed to Rome, checking in at the Hotel dei Mellini, a luxury hotel on the banks of the Tiber, between Vatican City and the Spanish Steps. You'll have the evening to yourself to explore a bit and have dinner in whatever establishment strikes your fancy.
Included meals: breakfast, lunch
Overnight accommodations: Hotel dei Mellini (website) Via Muzio Clementi, 81 | Rome
